Your first consultation at SKINMENU: What to Expect

Great skin starts with understanding it. We take a closer look at what happens during your first SKINMENU Consultation and how we turn your skin concerns, goals and lifestyle into a personalised plan.

Portrait of a SKINMENU clinician

If you’re not sure which treatment to book, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

At SKINMENU, we don’t expect you to arrive knowing whether you need a laser, peel, injectable or a particular skincare ingredient. That’s our job.

Your first consultation is where we get to know your skin, understand what you’d like to improve and build your personalised SKINMENU.

Before your consultation

Before you arrive, we’ll ask you to complete a consultation form covering your medical history, current skincare, previous treatments and the concerns you’d like us to address.

If you’re coming in for a skin consultation, we recommend arriving without makeup where possible. Makeup can interfere with our assessment and skin analysis, although we can remove it for you in clinic if needed.

It’s also helpful to bring or make a note of the skincare products you’re currently using, including any prescription products.

We start with your SKINGOALS

Your consultation starts with you.

We’ll talk about what is bothering you, what you would like to change and what you ultimately want your skin to look and feel like.

Sometimes patients come to us with a specific treatment in mind. Other times, they simply know they want clearer skin, fewer breakouts, more even pigmentation or to improve their overall skin quality.

Both are completely fine.

We’ll also discuss your previous treatments, skincare experience, lifestyle and any upcoming events or plans that might affect your treatment timeline.

Your skin analysis

For in-clinic skin consultations, we can use our OBSERV skin analysis system to look beyond what we can see with the naked eye.

The imaging allows us to assess different features of the skin and can help us identify areas of pigmentation, redness, texture and other changes that may not be as obvious under normal lighting.

We combine this with a clinical assessment of your skin. Technology can give us useful information, but it doesn’t replace an experienced practitioner examining and understanding your skin.

Building your SKINMENU

Once we understand your skin and your goals, we can start putting the pieces together.

Your personalised plan is divided into three areas:

Your SKINGOALS
What we’re working towards.

Your SKINMENU
The treatments we recommend and how we suggest sequencing them.

Your SKINREGIME
The skincare that will support your skin at home and complement your treatment plan.

Your plan might include one treatment, or it might involve several different technologies and approaches over time.

We offer treatments including laser, chemical peels, advanced facials, microneedling, injectables and medical-grade skincare, which means we aren’t limited to trying to make one treatment work for every concern.

And sometimes, the right recommendation is to start with skincare before we treat at all.

You don’t have to do everything at once

Your SKINMENU is a plan, not a shopping list.

We can prioritise the treatments likely to make the biggest difference and build your journey around your budget, downtime and schedule.

Skin takes time to change, and some concerns require consistency rather than a single treatment. We’ll be clear about what we think is worthwhile, what can wait and what we don’t think you need.

Can I have treatment on the same day?

In some circumstances, treatment may be possible on the same day, but this isn’t guaranteed.

Some treatments require preparation beforehand, while others may not be appropriate depending on your skin, medical history, recent sun exposure or treatments you’ve had elsewhere.

Your practitioner will advise you on the safest and most appropriate next step during your consultation.

What happens after?

Following your consultation, you’ll receive your personalised SKINMENU with a summary of your recommendations and guidance for your treatment journey.

You can then book your recommended treatments when you’re ready.

As your skin changes, your plan can change too. We don’t see your first consultation as an isolated appointment. It’s the starting point for understanding your skin and making better decisions about what it actually needs.

Ready to create your SKINMENU?

You don’t need to know which treatment you need before you come through the door.

Come with your skin concerns and your goals. We’ll take it from there.
